There is no "underground" community, no dark den of drunken sailors initiating themselves into manhood via cheap, ill-conceived exercises in bodily perforation; it's just a group of people who delight in using their bodies as billboards. Caring For A New Tattoo
When you finally decide to get a tattoo, the first thing youll need to do is find a reputable tattoo artist. Most tattoo artists have several designs that you can pick from. If you dont find anything you like, you can always ask him to make a custom tattoo. You should always be careful in what you choose, as youll have the tattoo for the rest of your life. The design is very important, although not nearly as important as taking care of it.
Good tattoo artists will also clean and apply antiseptic ointment to your tattoo as they create it. Expert artists know that this helps keep the tattoo healthy. Once the tattoo is finished, the artists will wipe it down, clean it off good, and apply another coat of antiseptic ointment. Once the ointment has been applied, he will put a piece of soft tissue or cellophane over the tattoo.
Once the tattoo is finished, the artists should tell you how to take care of your new tattoo. Some of the better artists will talk to you and give you a detailed sheet with all of the information you need. If you went to a tattoo artist who didnt explain this to you, you may be wondering just what you should do. Taking care of a tattoo isnt hard as long as you know what you can and cant do.
When you first get home with your new tattoo, you should never hop right in the shower. You should keep it dry for the first few days, but also clean it every few hours. Before you touch the tattoo or clean it, you should always make sure that your hands are clean. If you keep your hands clean, you wont have to worry about an infection.
Youll also want to visit your local drugstore and purchase a tube of A&D ointment. A&D ointment is the best to use. A&D will keep your tattoo clean and shiny and should be used for the first few days. Once the ointment starts to dry on the tattoo, you should wipe the old application off and apply some more. Dont rub it too hard, or you could damage the healing process. For the first few days, you should avoid using soap as well.
After 5 6 days, you can quit using the ointment. A&D ointment will keep your tattoo healthy, which youll notice the first time you apply it. After you stop using it, you should use an unscented body lotion. You want to avoid body lotions that have scents, as they can easily irritate the tender skin that resides under your tattoo.
After you have used the lotion for a few days, you can stop using it. Most tattoos, after they have healed, tend to leave a scab in some areas. If your tattoo has a scab, you should be careful when you try to pick it. If you arent careful, you could end up damaging your design. The best thing to do is you have a scab is to leave it alone. You can put A&D ointment on it if you want, as most of the time a scab will itch.
A tattoo can be a great thing to have providing you take care of it. Tattoos will stay with your for the rest of your life, unless you choose to get them surgically removed. Taking care of your tattoo now will keep it healthy and infection free in the long run. If you follow the above advice on how to take care of your tattoo you wont have anything to worry about.
Are You Aware Of The Risks Of Having A Tattoo?
By Ben Needles
Many people are having tattoos done nowadays as they are currently very fashionable. Even top celebrities are having them done. However most people are not fully aware of the potential health risks of having a tattoo.
There are several risks in all and although they are generally rare, you should still be aware of them. The first of which is the risk of getting an infection. If you get a tattoo done you will soon see if you have suffered an infection because the affected area of the skin will be red and swelling. This happens as a direct result of the tattoo artist using unsterilized equipment and needles so you should always make sure you use a professional, licensed tattoo parlour who sterilizes all of their equipment. If youre not sure, always ask and insist on this before they start any work.
This is so important because not only can you get a nasty infection, but you can also get more serious blood-borne diseases as well through unsterile equipment. So youre potentially at risk of getting hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV in extreme cases.
As well as the risk of getting an infection or disease, another risk associated with getting a tattoo is skin disorders or granulomas. These are little bumps that appear on the skin around the tattoo and are often a result of an adverse reaction to the tattoo ink being inserted into the skin.
Another possible risk is the risk of getting an allergic reaction. This happens in very few cases but it is nevertheless a possibility. Unfortunately the only way you will find out is after you have your first tattoo applied. There is no where of knowing beforehand.
The final risk is one everyone contemplating getting a tattoo will be aware of and thats the risk of not liking the tattoo design, either straight after its been applied or in later years. A tattoo is permanent and you will have to live with it for the rest of your life, which is why the decision over the tattoo design, and indeed the choice of tattoo artist, is so important.
If you are subsequently unhappy with a tattoo then you can either live with it or decide to have it removed. This removal procedure brings additional risks because it is not always completely successful and may leave scarring or skin discolouration.
Overall though for most people, the action of getting a tattoo done passes without any complications. There are small risks of course but most people end up delighted with their chosen tattoo design and encounter few problems. As long as you choose a professional tattoo artist who uses sterile equipment, and take your time choosing a tattoo design you are happy with, then you should end up delighted with any tattoos you have done.
